#5.Create new partition in Windows 7 or 8 -- Step by Step approach

Why?

I have huge volume of space on a single drive. I need to split it into 2 or more healthy partitions.
In this post , lets see how we can do that. You must be an administrator to make changes on the volumes you have in your system.

To create partition on a hard disk , there should be unallocated space available on the hard disk else you should have free space within the an existing partition. If there is no unallocated space available on the hard disk, create it by shrinking the existing one.

STEPS:

1.Go to My computer right click on it , select manage. You will be taken to computer management window now.

2. On the left pane goto Storage-->Disk Management ,you will be able to view all partitions available now.

3. Lets consider F drive on my system for example. It is a healthy partition available there. Right click on F drive select shrink volume. A new Window pop up with options to shrink this drive.

4. Enter the size of new partition to be created in MB on  "Enter the amount of space to shrink in MB" tab. Here i prefer to create a new partition with 100GB. So I had mentioned 102400MB. then hit shrink.

5. Now you could see a new unallocated space created next to F drive partition.Right click on it & select New simple Volume, a Wizard with same name opens & guide you to make this unallocated drive into a partition.

6. Select Next , Specify the size if you need to change on the specify volume size page, hit Next . you can assign a drive letter to your new partition on this page. In my case I left it as H. Give Next.

7. On Format partition page, mention if you want to name your drive with any specific name . I had given TEST PARTITION . Give Next. You will be taken to final page of this wizard you could verify the options you had selected on a small text box available & Give Finish to complete the process.

8. The New partition will be ready for my usage now.

9. We are done with creating a new healthy partition in windows 7 or 8.
