#6.Extend available partition in Windows 7 or 8 - step by step approach

Why?

In my last post we had seen how to create a new partition from an existing drive. Here comes the reverse of it.I would like to show you how we can merge 2 drives together in a computer.

You have to be an administrator to perform this task. Generally any unallocated volume can be easily added to any drive existing in your system. If not we need to make an existing drive as unallocated to merge it before.

Steps:

1.Go to My computer right click on it , select manage. You will be taken to computer management window now.

2. On the left pane goto Storage-->Disk Management ,you will be able to view all partitions available now. I would like to merge my H drive with F drive. The F drive will be extended finally to 200GB.

3.To make this drive unallocated you need to Format it first & then you need to delete this volume. Please ensure that you move your files required to another drives before you format. All files present in the drive will get lost one you format it.

4.Right click on  the H drive , select Format.

5. Once H drive format gets completed, Right click on it select DELETE VOLUME. This will make the named drive into an unallocated volume.

6. Now Right click on F drive ,select Extend Volume, this will open extend volume wizard. give next to see available unallocated volumes available in your system.

7.Since only one disk is unallocated now, it will be selected by default. ensure your require selection & give next.

8. Select Finish at the end of the wizard. Now you will be able to see 100GB got added to F drive .
